Tuesday On the Run

02/02/2010

Good Morning Parkway family!

Pastor Dale here with this week’s edition of Tuesday on the Run.  This morning we woke up to find that the groundhog saw his shadow and predicted that winter would last another six weeks.  This has been a good old-fashioned winter.  If you’re wondering, yes, I’m looking forward to it being over.  I look forward to the promise of spring, which by the way, is one of my favorite seasons.

I wish I could say that we had a wonderful worship service on Sunday, but we got snowed out for the third time this year.  Yes, I am an optimist.  I held out hope for a long time that we would be able to get our worship in this past Sunday.  I really miss being with all of you and miss worshiping together as a church family.  We did post-pone the chili cook-off till a later date.  I’ve been working on my chicken chili recipe and look forward to tasting some of the other delicious chili recipes.

Let me share a great passage of scripture with you this morning.  It is a paraphrase of Matthew 11:25-30 from The Message.

25-26Abruptly Jesus broke into prayer: "Thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth. You've concealed your ways from sophisticates and know-it-alls, but spelled them out clearly to ordinary people. Yes, Father, that's the way you like to work."

27Jesus resumed talking to the people, but now tenderly. "The Father has given me all these things to do and say. This is a unique Father-Son operation, coming out of Father and Son intimacies and knowledge. No one knows the Son the way the Father does, nor the Father the way the Son does. But I'm not keeping it to myself; I'm ready to go over it line by line with anyone willing to listen.

28-30"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."

I came across this earlier this week on Lisa Shinn’s blog.  Chris and Lisa minister at our church is Charleston, WV.  It really was encouraging to me as I read those words of Jesus again — from a new perspective.  My prayer for all of us is that we continually draw closer to God and his Son, Jesus.  I have been enjoying Pastor Barry’s teaching series Growing Closer to God.  James tells us to ...draw near to God and He will draw near to you.  I am excited about what God is doing here at Parkway as we draw near to Him.  Let’s continue to grow in our relationship with our heavenly Father.

Continue to pray for Pastor Barry and Rosemary and her family during this time.

Have a wonderful week!  Carp Diem! (Seize the Day!)

Pastor Dale
