God is Still God!
Gladys Aylward, a missionary to China for over fifty years, tells of having to flee the city of Yangcheng once the Japanese invaded it. With only one assistant, the young Aylward led more than a hundred orphaned children over the mountains to safety in Free China. On one particular morning, Aylward battled feelings of despair brought on by sleepless nights, scarce food, and little hope. While she wrestled with these emotions inside, a 13 year old girl in the group rambled on about the story of Moses and the crossing of the Red Sea, until Gladys could take it no longer. “Look”, said Aylward to her young companion, “I am not Moses.” “Of course you’re not,” said the little girl, “but Jehovah is still God.”
Oh, how we often need that reminder. I may not be able to preach like Billy Graham, or lead like John Maxwell or write books like Max Lucado, but Jehovah is still God. The good news is He can use any of us if we will make ourselves available. [He once used a talking donkey to get his point across to a stubborn prophet named Baalaam (see Numbers 22: 21-31), so there is hope for all of us].
Whatever obstacle or problem you face this morning, our God is more than adequate. My prayer for you is the same as the Apostle Paul’s prayer for the church at Ephesus. (Ephesians 1: 17-19a) “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.”
We may be weak, but we belong to an all-powerful God. Trust in His strength today!
Have a great day!
