One Day There is a painting from the late Byzantine period that powerfully depicts the Victory of the Resurrection. It can be found in the apse of the Church of Christ in Constantinople. It is titled, Anastasia which means “resurrection” and it depicts the triumph of Christ’s victory over death in a stunning way. The Lord Jesus, newly emerged from the tomb, is pulling Adam and Eve out of their coffins to eternal life. What is so amazing about this artwork is the way it shows how spiritual and physical death, the result of the fall, were dramatically reversed by the risen Christ. Prior to His death on the cross, the Lord Jesus predicted a future day when He will call believers into a new and glorified existence: “The hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth” (John 5:28-29) I don’t know about you, but that promise of our Lord Jesus gives me hope. No matter what happens, one day I know I will have a new a body just like my risen Lord. Death and decay will not ultimately win! I’m still rejoicing over the celebration of this past Sunday. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. (Matthew 28:6). I love the old hymn by J. Wilbur Chapman that expresses this wonderful hope of resurrection. Living, He loved me; dying, He saved me; Buried, He carried my sins far away; Rising, He justified freely forever; One day He’s coming – O glorious day! Have a great week!
