Not long ago I determined to organize the work bench area in my garage. I put up a peg board, bought some hangers and determined to get organized. The other day it took me 30 minutes to find a Phillips head screwdriver.
The same is true with my office. I’ve bought file folders, I’ve added filing cabinets, I’ve set up letter trays and designated an IN and OUT box. Funny thing is the IN Box is overflowing into the OUT box space.
Do you see a pattern here? I’m great at starting stuff, but not always so good at follow through. The same is true in our spiritual life. Many start well, but fail to finish strong. Many have a good beginning but then drop out before making it to the end.
In Hebrews 12:1 we find a great encouragement to persevere; to keep on running. Listen to these words “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,” If I’ve learned anything from my years of running it is this: if you keep moving eventually you’ll get there. And if you keep running regularly and consistently you will get stronger and it will get easier (not much – but a little). And I’m convinced of this: our Christian race is worth running. My desire is to finish strong and if I keep my eyes on Jesus eventually I’m going to get there.
So back to my “30 day fitness challenge” I’ve decided it may have to be a 3 year challenge. I held a plank for a full minute this morning. I’m inspired. Who knows, I may alphabetize all the books in my office someday.
Have a great week!
