What Is Worship?
True worship is God-centered worship. People tend to get caught up in where they should worship, what music they should sing in worship, and how the worship looks to other people. Focusing on these things completely misses the point. Jesus tells us that true worshipers will worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). This means we worship from the heart and the way God has designed. Worship can include praying, reading God's Word with an open heart, singing, participating in communion, and serving others. It is not limited to one act, but is done properly when the heart and attitude of the person are in the right place.
Biblical Forms of Worship:
Standing — They will stand in awe of the God of Israel. Isaiah 29:23.
Singing — I will be glad and exalt in You; I will sing praise to Your name, 0 Most High. Psalm 9:2.
Shouting — My lips will shout for joy when I sing praises to You; and my soul, which You have redeemed. Psalm 71:23.
Sitting — Then David the king went in and sat before the Lord, and he said, "Who am I, 0 Lord God..." 2 Samuel 7:18.
Clapping — O clap your hands, all peoples; shout to God with the voice of joy. Psalm 47:1.
Bowing — Moses made haste to bow low toward the earth and worship. Exodus 34:8.
Praying — In the morning, 0 Lord, You will hear my voice; In the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch. Psalm 5:3.
Laying Prostrate — And Jesus went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed... Matthew 26: 39.
Dancing — Let them praise His name with dancing. Psalm 149:3
One of the things that we believe at Parkway is that worship is a broad term. We are commanded to glorify God in everything that we do. Worship for us is more than just the singing or the preaching. It is more than what we do for an hour on Sunday morning. Worship is at the core of everything we do. One of our goals is to worship God with excellence. We want to give our Creator the best that we have to offer, because He deserves it.
With that in mind, the area of worship arts covers a range of things that we do at Parkway. We have many areas for you to get involved.
Currently our team consists of keyboard and vocalists. We are looking for additional instrumentalists to add to the team.
These are the support roles for the worship on the platform. We have opportunities to serve in the area of sound and video. Training will be provided if you feel you would like to serve in this area.
We have opportunities for those who are gifted in the area of vocal solos and small ensembles to participate as well. We would love to have the chance to talk with you about being part of our special music.
While our choir does not sing each week, we do have opportunities for you to sing in our seasonal choir.
