EmPOWERING-PEOPLE-IN-CHRIST
A New Purpose Jacob Davis was a tailor with a problem. It was the height of the Gold Rush in the 1800’s American West and the gold miners’ work pants kept wearing out. His solution? Davis went to a local dry goods company owned by Levi Strauss, purchased tent cloth, and made work pants from that heavy, sturdy material and blue jeans were born. Today, denim jeans in a variety of forms (including Levi’s) are among the most popular clothing items in the world. Only now, it’s poplar to wear them fashionably worn out. The more strategically placed holes the better. It’s also doubtful the hard-working miners of Jacob Davis’ day could have afforded the trendy, chic jeans of today! My daughter who lives in Armenia, tells me that the cheapest of jeans there cost over a $100. Just to think, a billion dollar a year industry was started because tent material was given a new purpose. Simon Peter, Andrew, James and John were simple fishermen on the Sea of Galilee until Jesus came along and gave them a new purpose. “Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” (Mark 1:17). No longer would they spend their days on a boat casting their nets. Instead, they would be “fishing for men’s souls” throughout the far reaches of their world. God has called each of us to do the same. Our new singular purpose is to tell others the good news of the gospel. Let’s pray that God would guide us as we seek to reach the lost around us. Let’s go fishing! Have a great week! Pastor Barry If you would like to comment or if you have questions for Pastor Barry you may direct those to bglawson75@gmail.com. We would love to hear from you.
