An Invitation

                                                                An invitation

In Revelation 3:20 we find one of the most wonderful invitations in the Bible.  “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me”.

The familiar painting, “Christ at Heart’s Door” by Warner Sallman is the artist’s interpretation of this verse.  Christ is standing at the door of a small cottage knocking.  If you’ll look closely there is no door knob, indicating that the door can only be opened from the inside.  Jesus will never force His way into our life.  He only enters by invitation.

But oh, what an amazing promise we have in this verse!  Imagine Jesus wants to enter and sit down with us and share a meal.  It’s a way of saying He wants to fellowship with us in an intimate way.  We can have a personal relationship with the Creator of the universe!

Have you heard His gentle knock?  Sometimes we are so distracted by the noise of our busy lives that we can’t hear Him.  Some perhaps are afraid to let Him in, for fear of the changes He might want to make.  Maybe we’re afraid His presence will be too constricting on our lifestyle.  Surely, His presence will necessitate some changes.

But oh, the blessings!  Imagine the strength His presence brings.  If we need power, we have an unlimited supply. If we need guidance, we have an internal GPS to show us the way.  Christ within us makes all the difference.

Amazingly, the Lord is patient He knocks and knocks repeatedly.  But this offer is not without limits.  If we reject Him long enough, He may turn away.  Why not make this the day you open the door?  IF you already have, take time to stop and thank Him for being a part of your life.  Take time today to enjoy a few moments of intimate fellowship.  Open the door and let Him in!

Have a great week!
