Are; you a constant worrier?  Do you fret over things like your health, your finances, your kids or your future?  Are you losing sleep over possible events that may or may not actually happen?  If so, you may be suffering from generalized anxiety disorder or GAD.  GAD is defined as a condition marked by a perpetual state of worry about most aspects of life.  According to David Barlow, professor of psychology at Boston University, “the key psychological feature of GAD is a state of chronic, uncontrollable worry.”  A little anxiety is normal, but constant worry is not.

The first century Christians who were being persecuted and scattered because of their faith had plenty to worry about.  Often they were ostracized, spurned by their own families and forced to flee from their homes.  Much like many Christian refuges today.  They were denied employment, targeted for persecution and often threatened with bodily harm.  In other words, they had plenty to worry about.

But the apostle Peter tells them not to worry and not to fret.  Instead Peter says, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (I Peter 5:7).  The antidote for worry is trust.  Put your hand in the hand of the One who controls the future.  He’s got it all under control.  We can rest in Him!

Have a great week!
