EmPOWERING-PEOPLE-IN-CHRIST
One of the most interesting questions found in the Bible is the question of Pilate at Jesus’ trial. After the crowd asks him to release the murderer Barabbas. Pilate said to them, “What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said to him, “Let Him be crucified!” Even though Pilate tries to wash his hands of the whole affair, but ultimately he has to make a decision about Christ and he makes the wrong one.
George McDonald wrote a book years ago entitled “Letters from Hell”. In that book he describes several people who find themselves there, one of those is Pilate. McDonald pictures Pilate kneeling down by a stream, endlessly washing his hands. He never looks up, he just keeps at his task until someone touches him and says “PILATE, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” As Pilate lifts his hands you can see they are red with blood. And he cries out like a character from one of Shakespeare’s plays, “Will they never be clean? Will they never be clean?” No Pilate they never will. The blood of Jesus Christ will eternally be on Pilate’s hands, for he missed his chance. The story of Pilate is up to date this morning. Why? Because I believe each of us faces the same question, “What will we do with Jesus?” I know in my own life there came a day when I had to make a decision, I couldn’t avoid it any more, I couldn’t put it off. I found out that God wouldn’t accept a compromise, or a half-hearted commitment. I found out that I couldn’t follow Him just when it was convenient. It was an all or nothing proposition. I found out that there was no way I could wash my hands of responsibility – I HAD TO MAKE A CHOICE. And so must you. What will you do with Jesus? Why not make this the day you decide to make Jesus Your Lord and Savior. It will be the best decision you will ever make. Have a great week!
