Be Thankful

Psalm 107:1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

At the close of his evangelistic campaigns, D. L. Moody would often give people an opportunity to testify as to what the Lord had done for them in those meetings...  At the close of one of those revival meetings a man stood and gave his testimony.

He said, “FOR FORTY YEARS I’VE LIVED ON GRUMBLE STREET, BUT THIS WEEK I’VE MOVED UP TO THANKSGIVING AVENUE.  Then he added, AND WITH THE LORD’S HELP I DON’T EVER WANT TO VISIT THE OLD NEIGHBORHOOD AGAIN.

What would it take for you and I to move to Thanksgiving Avenue this morning?  Someone has said that to effectively start a new habit, you have to do it consistently for a minimum of 21 days.  So, if you want to establish the habit of always giving thanks, you need to do so consistently for 21 days.  Every time you forget or catch yourself grumbling .. start over with a new 21 day cycle.  Before you know it, giving thanks will become second nature.

Let me offer a couple of suggestions to get you started.  For the next three weeks in your devotion time try to think of something different each day to thank God for.  Write them down.  By the end of three weeks you should have a list of 21 things that you are thankful for.

You will be surprised at how better your day will go as you start it off with praise.  When problems or irritations arise, don’t fall back to grumbling.  Instead, give God praise for how He is going to work it out for His glory and your good!

Have a great week!
Pastor Barry
