Beating Death

3/15/2016

Some days my hearing is not what it used to be.  My wife says I have “selective” hearing.  When she mentions cleaning up the kitchen or taking out the trash I can’t seem to hear her, but if she whispers the word “ice cream” I’m right there.

Recently I was listening to the radio and I heard an announcer say, “You can beat death – for good!”  My ears perked up and I listened a little more intently.  Was this an ad for some new wonder pill, or exercise routine, or age-defying moisturizer?  Talk about over- selling this was the ultimate advertizing claim – “beat death for good!”  Then, I realized I’d misheard the announcer.  The seminar was going to show you how to “beat debt for good!”  A worthy goal, but not quite as dramatic as beating death.

But that mis-heard ad got me to thinking.  I already know of one who did beat death.  And because He lives, you and I can also.  Listen to this amazing claim in I Corinthians 15: 54-57 - 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” 55 “Where, O death, is your victory?  Where, O death, is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

By the way Jesus took care of our “debt” problem too.  That’s why we can have victory over the grave.  Satan and death have no power over us.  We are no longer under death’s dominion or power because our debt was “paid in full” at Calvary.

So forget about the protein shakes, skip the trip to the gym if you’d like, take a pass on the wrinkle cream and go have some ice cream.  We’re going to live forever!

Have a great day!
