Turn off the Scoreboard I heard recently of a high school basketball coach who, when his team lost a game, kept the losing score on the scoreboard all week to remind his players of their failure. He somehow thought it would motivate them to work harder to keep it from happening again. Maybe that works for basketball players, but it is a terrible idea for marriages and relationships. When your spouse upsets you or fails you in some way, don’t keep reminding them of their failure. Turn off the scoreboard. The great love chapter, I Corinthians 13:5 reminds us that “love keeps no record of wrongs”. Paul also reminds us that we should “Forgive each other, just as in Christ, God forgave us.” (Ephesians 4:32) I don’t know about you, but I am deeply grateful that God turns off the scoreboard when I fail. He doesn’t just forgive us when we repent, He removes our sin as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12). My prayer is that God will help me extend the same kind of love and forgiveness to those around me. Especially those closest to me. Quit trying to settle the score. Turn off the scoreboard and start a new game. Your gracious attitude may result in a much better outcome. Have a great week!
