What Christmas is All About

What Christmas is All About
This is the fifty-first year since “A Charlie Brown Christmas” first appeared on American television.  Some network executives were afraid that the overtly Christian theme and the quoting of Scripture would offend viewers.  Some wanted its creator, Charles Schultz to omit the Christmas story, but Schultz, refused and insisted it stay in.

The program was an immediate success and has been rebroadcast every year since 1965.  When Charlie Brown, the frustrated director of the children’s Christmas play, is discouraged by the commercial spirit of the holiday season, he asks if anyone can tell him the real meaning of Christmas.

Linus, the comic strips’ resident Theologian and Biblical scholar, recites Luke 2:11-14 (KJV) 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. Then Linus says, “That’s What Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown!”

Linus is right.  It’s not about presents and parties.  It’s not about Santa and sleighs and reindeer.  It’s not about well-trimmed trees, and lights and inflatable lawn figures.  The real meaning of Christmas is the coming of Jesus to be our Savior.  Our Children’s Musical this year (December 18th – 6:00 PM) is called the “Really, Really, Really Good News.”  Nothing could be better.  I trust this Christmas you will hear and let your heart be warmed by this amazing news ...  A Savior has come.  Take time to rejoice and be encouraged.

Have a great week!
